This is a very large occupation with over 182,000 job openings expected over the next five years, ensuring strong job outcomes for graduates.

Develop a sound basis in workplace health and safety and develop practical skills including maintaining business resources, operational plan support, contributions to team effectiveness, purchase of goods and services, and customer complaints.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria

To complete this program you must:-

  • identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, as this training product has been developed specifically for you in support of equity policy for post compulsory education; and
  • attend an interview to determine your literacy and numeracy skill levels and discuss study arrangements. This is important as you need to commit to attending 5 residential blocks in Cairns.

Also, it is highly recommended you have an understanding of computer applications and basic finance operations.

Traineeship pathway
To study a traineeship program you must be indentured as a trainee with your employer.

Employers need to be able to provide necessary human and physical resources to qualify for a trainee.

Resources required

You will need to provide their own USB and stationery. 

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable Internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

Important information

To complete this program you are required to complete a combination of face to face residential block training and flexible self-paced learning.  The residential block training consists of 5 x 2 week blocks and 1 x 1 week block. The dates for the residential block training are per the dates on the website. To enable your attendance at residential block training, you will need to be registered with ABSTUDY.  Cairns students can also enrol into this course, but must be available to attend as per the study block dates.

Assessment methods

Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
