Course overview

Add to your existing gas, electrical or plumbing skills with this accredited skill set in Type A gas appliances servicing. This specialised course is perfect for existing workers who already hold a current gas registration and/or licence. 

This short course will give you the skills and knowledge required to diagnose and repair faults on domestic and commercial Type A gas appliances such as gas stove tops, hot water systems, ducted heated appliances, and gas refrigerators. 

Successful completion of this course will allow you to apply for your licence to safely service Type A gas appliances.

Entry requirements

Selection criteria

You must :

  • be enrolled in a course of training approved by the Gas inspectorate relevant to the licence outcome
  • Or Hold a current Queensland Interim Gas licence

You must be enrolled into or have completed the following units

  • CPCPCM2043 Carry out WHS requirements
  • CPCPGS3053 Disconnect and reconnect Type A gas appliances

Resources required

Personal protective equipment

  • protective clothing - neat and casual clothing ( in classroom), 100% cotton drill shirt and cotton drill shorts for any practical classes
  • protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • protective eyewear - safety glasses or clip-ons, if prescription glasses are normally worn (AS/NZ 1336 or 1337)

Students failing to meet these minimum standards of dress will not be permitted entry in to practical classes.

Applicants and holders of a Gas Work Licence must have current versions of the following standards and regulations available at all times:

  • Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Regulation 2004 (available for download from the Queensland Legislation website at www.legislation.qld.gov.au)
  • AS/NZS 5601.1: - Gas Installations – General Installations
  • AS/NZS 5601.2: – Gas Installations – LP Gas Installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes
  • AS/NZS 1596: – The Storage and Handling of LP Gas
  • AS/NZS 4575: - Gas Appliances - Quality of Servicing
  • AS/NZS 4646: - Gas Appliance Standards - Definitions and Calculation
