Course overview

This honours program, delivered in partnership with the University of Canberra, will take your studies in the creative industries to the next level.

Students have two options for how to complete the program. The first option is to develop a project to work on throughout your honours year and write an accompanying dissertation. The second option is to write a longer dissertation as the sole focus of your research. The units in this honours program have been specially designed to guide you on your research journey. You will also have a supervisor who will act as your mentor throughout the academic journey of your honours studies.

Working closely with expert supervisors, you will develop the high-level skills required for research or project-based employment. This qualification will significantly broaden your future career prospects and also provides a direct pathway into masters or PhD studies.

This unit is intended to complement students Honours dissertation research. By looking at a range of exemplars of research from a wide variety of fields, students will examine some of the fundamental issues of objectivity, subjectivity, reflexivity, ethics and rhetoric involved in producing knowledge through research. Research may include creative practice. Questions to be examined include: What sorts of knowledge can research produce? What issues of ethics and power are raised by different forms of research? What are the different ways in which research can be communicated, and what sorts of epistemological and ethical consequences do those ways involve? As part of this unit, students will also participate in an Honours mini-conference, at which they will present a substantial research proposal.
