Unlock your learning potential: essential study tips

We all want to enjoy the break, finish the term or semester off with a bang, and prepare for exams.

Who’s excited for summer? Who’s excited for the holidays? Who’s excited for exams? BOO! We know the feeling of being so close from that well deserved end of year break, but why not finish the year with a bang and prepare for exams? Don’t know how to begin studying or can’t stay focused? We’ve got you sorted.

Here are five tips to help you get through that final push of study and keep you motivated and moving forward towards your goals.

Active learning

Engaging with the material through methods like summarising, teaching, or quizzing yourself supports deeper understanding. This approach helps you retain information better because it requires you to process the knowledge rather than passively reading or highlighting.

Create a study schedule

Setting a specific time for studying helps establish a routine, making it easier to get into the right mindset. A schedule also allows you to allocate time for each subject or topic, ensuring thorough coverage and reducing last-minute cramming.

Use a variety of resources

Different formats (like pictures and videos) cater to various learning styles and can make the material more relatable. This keeps your study sessions interesting and can help clarify complex concepts through different explanations.

Take breaks

The Pomodoro Technique (study for 25 minutes, then take a 5-minute break) leverages the brain's natural attention span. Regular breaks prevent fatigue and helps to maintain focus over longer periods, making your study time more productive.

Stay organised

Keeping your study materials and notes organised reduces stress and saves time when searching for information. An organised study space also helps create a pleasant learning environment, allowing you to concentrate better and work efficiently.
