Year 11 student puts her best brush forward

Sophie is putting her best brush forward pursuing her love of beauty with her second qualification, the Certificate III in Beauty Services (SHB30115), through the TAFE at School program.

Sophie’s passion for beauty started at a young age where she took any opportunity to explore the colours and textures of make-up, even using her little brother a a human canvas.

“Even when I was younger I loved beauty,” Sophie said.

“I used to get into my mum's makeup and steal her makeup. She'd find me in her room with makeup all over the floor and I'd have red lipstick all over my face.”

Inspired by her older school friends who had studied through TAFE at School, Sophie approached her School’s VET Coordinator and had a chat.

“When I found out I that could do TAFE at School and study it, I definitely took the opportunity.”

Like many other students that have their career path planned early in life, Sophie started her studies with TAFE in Year 10, completing her Certificate II in Retail Cosmetics (SHB20116).

Sophie will graduate high school with not only her Queensland Certificate of Education, but a nationally recognised qualification, giving her a competitive advantage against her peers.

With aspirations to pursue a career in the beauty industry, and plans to diversify into injectables, Sophie is confident her practical experience acquired in simulated classrooms will put her in good stead as she enters the job market career-qualified.

Reflecting on her TAFE at School studies so far, Sophie explained that she’s enjoyed that she’s been able to bring clients onto campus to practice her techniques.

“I've learned how to be a lot more professional, how to speak professionally and how to work with customers.”

“My favourite thing about studying with TAFE Queensland is that they have a lot of campuses with a lot of different options,” Sophie said.
