TAFE Queensland hosts digital skills roadshow

Budding digital professionals explored jobs in blockchain, cyber security and AI at TAFE Queensland's DIGITREK event.

This year TAFE Queensland worked closely with industry and partnered with the Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy to expand the DIGITREK program to provide even more Queenslanders with greater access to the digital skills of the future.

DIGITREK provided a range of free online and face-to-face digital technology workshops and seminars designed to provide greater access to the types of skills, experience and professional networks people will need to secure the digital jobs of the future.

TAFE Queensland Work Integrated Learning Officer and DIGITREK Project Manager Karen Graham said the program was packed with workshops suited for students, people looking for a career change, educators and those already working in the field.

“It’s for anyone with a keen interest in future-focused jobs who want to network with businesses, educators and gain information to pursue further education in digital careers with plenty of job opportunities,” said Ms Graham.

“Participants unpack concepts and learn new tech skills to open up a world of possibility for a brilliant career in the digital space,” she said.

Ms Graham said while DIGITREK workshops are predominantly streamed online there were also a variety of exciting face-to-face sessions, demonstrations and networking events.

“DIGITREK also shines light on exciting new projects, innovation and future careers and provides valuable insight into digital skills and careers. It's also a great opportunity to further build and strengthen our local industry and education networks,” Ms Graham said.

Miranda Mears of Australian Impact group is one of DIGITREK’s industry partners who presented throughout the event series and hosted an online session covering cyber security essentials for businesses.

“Every career has a digital aspect and every element across businesses will be impacted by technology in some capacity,” said Ms Mears.

“DIGITREK is a vital resource for both new entrants to the workforce along with existing business owners looking to future proof their business,” she said.

There has never been a better time to learn about digital careers and opportunities, with demand for skills at an all-time high. The Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy’s Digital Professional Workforce Action Plan is working to supply an additional 10,000 digital professionals in Queensland by 2024.

DIGITREK has the potential to positively influence the lives of many Queenslanders for years to come with plans to model its success to other regions across the state.

An array of emerging technologies are displayed through hands-on workshops, discussion panels, presentations, networking and online events.
