TAFE Queensland scholarship helps Yu-Shen achieve study goals

With her TAFE Queensland scholarship, Yu-Shen was able to cover her semester's course fees and purchase vital study equipment.

Yu-Shen Kao was able to cover her semester's course fees and buy herself a new laptop which will aid her studies in Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) using her TAFE Queensland scholarship.

Originally from Taiwan with a background in machine engineering and interior design, Yu-Shen is now studying a Certificate III in Engineering - Technical (MEM30505) and planning to secure a position as a draftsperson.

Boasting an impressive resume in her home country, Yu-Shen always knew study with TAFE Queensland would help her secure a new career in Australia.

"I love studying and had my double bachelors in finance and architecture as well as three certificates including interior building design in Taiwan," she said.

Yu-Shen used these qualifications in her 15-year career as a machine engineering project manager and during her time as an interior designer.

Yu-Shen is looking to bring her expertise to a local business once she finishes her TAFE Queensland studies, saying she wants to find "a drafting position related to architecture or manufacturing fields, because I will be qualified and I am familiar with these fields."

Yu-Shen chose TAFE Queensland for this course because she knew the quality of training was very high and had previously had a good experience when studying in TAFE Queensland's Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP).

"In my experience, TAFE Queensland teachers are very kind and professional. The staff here can help me find the pathway to a good position, so TAFE Queensland was my first choice," Yu-Shen said.

Yu-Shen has been very impressed so far in her TAFE Queensland studies, saying that TAFE Queensland "is the best vocational technical school in Australia. The staff are rigorous, respectful, precise, and very caring about students learning, so I am so happy to study here."

Yu-Shen's scholarship was funded by TAFE Queensland on a merit basis in the ninth round of Scholarships, which were first offered in 2015.
