Cooking Enthusiast Pursues Passion for Cyber Security at TAFE Queensland

An exciting career change for Rory after a long and successful journey in the culinary world.

TAFE Queensland's Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC) student, Rory Donohue, has embarked on an exciting career change after a long and successful journey in the culinary world. With a burning desire to protect individuals and organisations from cyber threats, Rory made the bold decision to enrol in TAFE Queensland's cyber security program.

For over 16 years, Rory delighted patrons with his delectable dishes, but he gradually felt unfulfilled and yearned for a new challenge. When he discovered TAFE Queensland's Fee-Free courses, Rory's attention was immediately captured by the field of cyber security. Recognising the opportunity to pursue a career aligned with his passion, he embarked on the Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC) program, leaving his cookery career behind.

Enrolling at TAFE Queensland, Rory is determined to acquire the essential knowledge and skills necessary to build a fulfilling career in a field he has always been genuinely interested in. He embraces personal challenges, aiming to improve his self-confidence along the way. To Rory, TAFE Queensland is not just a place to learn; it is a platform that unlocks his full potential.

"My ultimate goal is to establish a career where I can achieve work-life balance, pursue hobbies, spend time with my family, and receive fair compensation for my efforts," Mr Donohue said.

"Ideally, I am hoping to secure an associate level SOC analyst role in the cyber security industry."

Rory's journey has not been without obstacles. Diagnosed with ADHD at a young age and having faced social anxiety, depression, and PTSD from a traumatic experience, he has shown remarkable resilience and commitment to his studies.

"I am proud of the progress I have made so far," Rory shared.

"Despite the challenges I've encountered, I remain focused on building a successful career in cyber security."

The availability of TAFE Queensland's Fee-Free Certificate IV in Cyber Security (22603VIC) played a significant role in Rory's decision to enrol in the program. The financial savings from the course have helped cover his living expenses since he left his job in hospitality to pursue full-time study.
