Enhancing Performance: TAFE Queensland's Impact on Gold Coast United Netball Club

Together, we're shaping future sports stars!

TAFE Queensland and Gold Coast United Netball Club have partnered as part of their official sponsorship agreement for 2023. Students enrolled in TAFE Queensland's Certificate IV in Fitness (SIS40221) and the Diploma of Sport (SIS50321) will provide a series of training sessions focused on strength and conditioning to the Gold Coast United Netball Club.

The partnership between TAFE Queensland and Gold Coast United Netball Club presents unique opportunities for TAFE Queensland students, Gold Coast United players, and participants of the club. The partnership will continue until the end of September with TAFE Queensland students regularly visiting the training location, Firth Park, where they will deliver fresh new drills and content to the players to enhance their training experience.

Nikki Ross, the President of Gold Coast United Netball, expressed the alliance with TAFE Queensland demonstrates that TAFE Queensland have a genuine interest in nurturing on the ground community relationships.

“TAFE Queensland students will be able to put into practice straight away what they are covering in the classroom,” Nikki said.

“In addition, at these training sessions the students will also learn about their communication styles and how to build those connections with the athletes they are teaching,” she said.

The Gold Coast United Netball players were excited to be taken through ‘strength and conditioning’ sessions by the TAFE Queensland students.

“We had a lot of positive feedback from the first session with our players enjoying being put through their paces.”

“This is such an exciting time for the club as we are relatively new and being able to build these relationships is something that we are looking to build on and continue.”

Matt Foster, Sport and Fitness teacher at TAFE Queensland explained students are working with each of the seven teams at Gold Coast United Netball Club to provide them with a strength and conditioning training program. The programs with the support from their teachers have been specifically designed to physically develop the players for their sport and provide general health benefits for life as growing teens.

“The tailored sessions are delivered by the students giving them valuable real-life hands-on experience of training sporting groups in the community,” said Matt.

“It serves as an opportunity for students to fine tune skills learnt in the classroom in a practical setting,” he said.

Robert Ogden, Diploma of Sport student mentioned he buzzing and has loved the whole experience.

“It has helped to gain confidence working with actual sports groups in the community,” said Robert Odgen.

The collaboration between TAFE Queensland and Gold Coast United Netball Club paves the way for promising career prospects in sports training and community engagement, with the Diploma of Sport offering job outcomes such as sports coach, strength and conditioning specialist, and community sports coordinator.
