Hat-trick for TAFE Queensland

TAFE Queensland's practical, industry-relevant training is being celebrated after the organisation and a number of students won trophies at the state final of the 2023 Queensland Training Awards.

TAFE Queensland's Chief Executive Officer John Tucker said being named the Large Training Provider of the Year - for a third year in a row - was a great achievement that shines a spotlight on the organisation's innovative, progressive and authentic training opportunities.

"As the state's largest training provider, TAFE Queensland has been operating for more than 140 years, providing students, industries and communities with quality outcomes," Mr Tucker said.

"The Queensland Training Awards is a prestigious event and I'm very proud of everyone at TAFE Queensland who contributes to our organisation's continued success."

When an individual, employer or industry seeks to advance their skills, career or circumstance, TAFE Queensland is their first port of call.

"We have an 89.9 per cent student satisfaction rating and a 92.1 per cent employer satisfaction rating," Mr Tucker said.

"Recent innovations at TAFE Queensland include the Australian Virtual Business College, an online delivery model for business qualifications through virtual classrooms and interactive content."

"We also launched the Course Gateway platform, a direct, online enrolment system for micro-credentials which attracted more than 1,500 enrolments in just four months."

Mr Tucker said TAFE Queensland's students and communities are at the heart of the organisation's every move.

"I am very proud that three of our students - Jessica Addo, Shaniqua Burke and Kyezaya Namai-Sabatino - also collected trophies at the Queensland Training Awards."

RATEP graduate Jessica Addo was named the Vocational Student of the Year.

Jessica, who manages an outside of school hours care facility, is passionate about ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children experience positive learning environments.

Jessica is gaining a teaching degree and hopes to one day work in a remote school.

The Queensland Training Award for School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year went to Kyezaya Namai-Sabatino.

Kyezaya is completing his TAFE Queensland engineering training and school-based apprenticeship alongside his senior high school studies.

Kyezaya has found working with heavy machinery to be fascinating and hopes to increase his trade skills by gaining a diesel fitting and auto electrician dual apprenticeship.

Shaniqua Burke collected the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year title at the Queensland Training Awards.

A trainee health worker, Shaniqua is a passionate advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care.
