Bundaberg mechanics gain valuable skills for the future

Automotive professionals from across the region descended on TAFE Queensland’s Bundaberg campus last week to expand their knowledge and broaden their skills in response to the industry’s growing demand for electric vehicles.

Held over the course of four days, participants in the Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set (AURSS00064) were trained how to safely inspect and maintain battery vehicles, diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems and diagnose and repair system instrumentation in safety – all valuable skills required in order to service electric vehicles.

Faculty Director for Technology, Manufacturing and Creative Industries, Jody Ridgeway said it was great to see locals taking up opportunities to continue growing their skills to ensure they are up-to-date with the developments impacting their industry now and into the future.

“Electric vehicles are only becoming more popular, currently making up 7.2 per cent of new car sales across Australia in 2023, so it’s important that our communities have the skills required to service this demand,” Ms Ridgeway said.

“With the technological advancements come skills gaps, which can be dangerous given how high-risk electrical work can be, so this skill set is about helping those already within the industry close that gap and learn what they need to undertake this kind of work safely.”

The skill set was completed at no cost to participants under the Federal and Queensland Governments’ Fee Free funding initiative.
