Filling the Gaps in Language and Career Skills
After brushing up on her English skills at TAFE Queensland through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP), Candice is now working as a dental assistant with Queensland Health.
Following her emigration from China in 2021, Candice’s determination to pursue a career in Australia led her to enrol in the AMEP at TAFE Queensland’s Inala campus.
The program, which is available at over 40 TAFE Queensland locations, supports the settlement journey of eligible migrants and refugees with free English language classes. The AMEP is funded by the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs.
After dedicating a year to the development of her English language skills, Candice progressed into TAFE Queensland’s CPR skillset (SSHLT0029) and, subsequently, a Certificate III in Dental Assisting (HLT35021).
Since completing her qualification, Candice has secured full-time employment as a dental assistant with Queensland Health.
"I used to struggle with even small casual conversations before I started studying in the AMEP, but now I can speak more fluently and confidently," Candice shared enthusiastically.
"The teachers at TAFE Queensland also helped me find a pathway to my future career in Australia."
Candice’s pathway to success is a testament to the AMEP's role in changing the lives of Australian migrants and refugees—and at TAFE Queensland, the program’s connectedness to countless study pathways ensures that students can make strides in the career of their choosing.
