Local business donation boosts Townsville’s world-class trade training facility

Haymans Electrical and DataTech Suppliers Townsville have donated over $15,000 worth of electrical supplies to equip TAFE Queensland’s state-of-the-art capstone room. The upgraded facility is an important component of the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30820) program and will play a pivotal role in training and assessing the next generation of electricians.

The capstone room, unveiled this morning, features advanced fault-finding cubicles where trainers can program realistic faults, allowing apprentices to demonstrate their skills in a controlled, safe environment as part of their final practical assessment.

Qualified electricians are in high demand across Australia, with the Australian Government’s Job Outlook service predicting around 26,000 job openings over the next five years. This facility ensures that electrical apprentices in North Queensland graduate with the skills and confidence to meet these growing industry needs.

Making the pathway even more accessible, the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician (UEE30820) can now be completed at no cost to eligible students, thanks to the Queensland Government’s Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program.

This initiative removes financial barriers, ensuring more young Queenslanders can access high-quality training and pursue a rewarding career in the electrical industry.

Manager of Haymans Electrical and DataTech Suppliers Townsville, Samuel Mattner, highlighted the importance of industry collaboration in supporting the trade.

“Haymans Electrical and DataTech Suppliers Townsville are proud to partner with TAFE Queensland to provide the valuable Trade Training Centre Capstone Room. Electricians are extremely important to the future of Australia as it becomes more electrified,” Mr Mattner said.

“Haymans are the top supplier when it comes to electrical supply to the industry in North Queensland and teaming up with TAFE Queensland solidifies our commitment to being involved training new electricians and data technicians.”

The donation includes essential electrical equipment, such as switchboards, stop-start stations, Hager switch gear, power outlets, switches, mounting gear, and cables.

TAFE Queensland North region Faculty Manager for Building and Industries, Andy Kent, acknowledged the critical role of partnerships in ensuring training facilities and programs meet the evolving demands of the industry.

“Industry partnerships like this one with Haymans Electrical and DataTech Suppliers are vital for the success of our students and the industries they will work in. These partnerships help us provide students with access to state-of-the-art facilities and the tools they need to gain practical, hands-on experience in real-world settings,” Mr Kent said.

“At TAFE Queensland, we understand the need for perpetual innovation and flexibility in our training. By working closely with industry, we ensure our programs remain relevant and tailored to meet both current and future employment demands.”

The capstone room opening was celebrated by approximately 20 attendees, including TAFE Queensland staff, representatives from Haymans Electrical and DataTech Suppliers Townsville, and other industry partners.
