Ozcare employees' skills surge with TAFE Queensland

Ozcare is up-skilling their workforce with Fee-Free training through a strategic partnership with TAFE Queensland.

Over 70 staff members from 18 locations across the state have advanced their careers, moving from Client Services Assistants to skilled Care Assistant roles after completing the Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015).

Sharon More, Ozcare’s Senior Learning and Development Advisor said the upskilling initiative has been transformative.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome which has opened doors for dedicated employees to step into specialised roles within Ozcare’s aged care facilities,” Ms. More said.

“TAFE Queensland tailored the delivery model specifically for our needs, with the program offered via Zoom through weekly tutorial sessions and virtual classrooms."

"The collaborative approach of TAFE Queensland's teachers and staff has not only enhanced the skills of our participants but also benefited our managers, Care Assistants, and support teams," she said.

Ozcare’s Bakhita Villa Aged Care Facility Manager, Leevi Thompson said the Ozcare team members were proud to finish the Certificate III.

"Our team members that graduated all worked very hard, worked as a team and were very proud of themselves, especially as some didn’t think they would or could ever study.” Mr Thompson said.

The success of this partnership comes at a crucial time. According to Jobs Queensland over 14,000 new Aged and Disability Carers jobs are expected to become available across the state in the next two years.

Karen Dickinson, TAFE Queensland Gold Coast General Manager said working with Ozcare not only enhances the careers of individual workers but also contributes to the overall health and well-being of the community.

“Seeing these employees gain new skills and grow in their roles is what TAFE Queensland is all about—empowering people to make a difference in their communities,” Ms. Dickinson said.

“The program’s success highlights the potential for other organisations to adopt similar upskilling models, ensuring the sector is equipped to meet the growing demands of an aging population,” she said.
