Partnership powers transition to sustainable future

TAFE Queensland has partnered with Mynt Energy Tech to develop and promote training related to hydrogen fuel cell technology.

TAFE Queensland has partnered with Brisbane zero emissions technology leaders Mynt Energy Tech to develop and promote training related to electric and hydrogen fuel cell technology, hydrogen advancements, and community awareness and safety programs.

As construction and mining businesses across Queensland and the world focus on transitioning from diesel generators to greener alternatives for powering sites in remote locations, Mynt are leading the charge toward more sustainable onsite power generation.

Through its introduction of a range of hybrid power generation products, including the solar-diesel Purple Pod and Purple Cube, Mynt has proven the viability of powering light duty cycle applications more cost effectively and dramatically more sustainably than with traditional diesel generator options. These products have seen tremendous uptake from industry, which greatly values the ability to reduce reliance on diesel power from 24 to two hours per day in typical Queensland conditions.

Mynt Energy Tech Future Fleet Initiatives General Manager Steve McCormack said this is a fantastic achievement and first step for sustainable site power, and that Mynt is developing a range of Hydrogen products which it sees as the future of sustainable power generation for heavy duty cycle applications.

“Mynt’s hybrid solar-diesel products have proven to make significant cost and carbon savings for users in a range of industries with light duty cycle needs, and we see Hydrogen as the way to bring a sustainable option to market for heavy duty cycle requirements in the near future,” Mr McCormack said.

“Mynt is focussed on offering sustainable power generation options that are financially viable, and often cheaper, for industry than traditional diesel power options. For heavy duty cycle applications we see Hydrogen power as the future and are dedicating research and development to this area constantly at our headquarters in Brisbane.”

“The collaboration between Mynt and TAFE Queensland underscores a shared belief in the importance of expanding the definition of sustainability. It encompasses not only products and alternative fuels but also the essential training and development of personnel to support the sector's rapid growth and transformation,” he said.

TAFE Queensland – SkillsTech Emerging Industries Business Manager Shawn O’Sullivan said that as the 2023 Australian Large Training Provider of the Year, TAFE Queensland is leading the way in supporting emerging industries to conceptualise and train their future workforce.

“TAFE Queensland has offered quality training for more than 140 years, and an eye on the future has been a constant theme across this time. We are focussed on delivering skills and knowledge to the workers needed by industries we service both today and into the future,” Mr O’Sullivan said.

“This partnership with Mynt Energy Tech is one which will help both TAFE Queensland and Mynt, but also broader industries as their transition to zero emissions becomes a priority in coming years.”

“New forms of clean energy power generation will require a workforce possessing new skills, and TAFE Queensland is already offering courses in hydrogen safety to industry members keen to get ahead of the curve,” he said.

Hydrogen Micro-credentials currently on offer at TAFE Queensland include Introduction to Hydrogen and Hydrogen Safety, which are available on the TAFE Queensland Course Gateway.

TAFE Queensland is proud to be the market leader for Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Australia, working with Government and industry to develop the critical training needed to support Queensland's future workforces and economy. Funded by the Queensland Government’s VET Emerging Industries initiative, which sees $15 million invested in new skills and training strategies across identified emerging industry needs in the manufacturing, energy, agribusiness, and screen and digital sectors, the development and delivery of these Micro-credentials is a clear demonstration of how TAFE Queensland is connecting Queenslanders with the work they want and supporting employers to grow stronger workforces.
