TAFE Queensland students shine at Building Design Queensland Awards

TAFE Queensland’s Building and Interior Design students have again proven their excellence, bringing home multiple awards and recognitions at the 2024 Building Design Queensland (BDQ) Awards.

Congratulations to Christopher Hancock, a Diploma of Building Design (CPP50921) student who took home the BDQ Student Design Award for Best Building Design and a $1000 prize.

His achievement reflects his hard work, dedication, and the exceptional skills fostered by TAFE Queensland’s Building and Interior Design teachers.

The BDQ Design Awards celebrate excellence in building design, highlighting the profession's significance to the industry, the wider community, and the building design professionals who are fundamental in shaping Queensland’s built environment.

These awards showcase the skills of BDQ members across residential, commercial and industrial design, sustainable building design, innovative use of building products, and small lot and home design.

BDQ members contribute essential expertise, creating designs that meet varied and complex needs.

The awards, with Major Partner James Hardie, offer members a valuable platform to display their skills, with all entries benefitting from enhanced marketing and promotional opportunities.

Additionally, Brisbane-based Diploma of Interior Design (MSF50222) students Daniel Morales and Petra Kakakios were celebrated as finalists for their outstanding commitment and talent in design.

The success extended beyond the Brisbane region, with Matt McHale from TAFE Queensland East Coast winning in the Best Interior Design category.

The students honed their sustainable building and interior design skills through hands-on learning and industry-expert instructors, paving the way to win awards.

Held at the Rivershed in Brisbane, the awards night provided an exciting opportunity for students to connect with industry professionals, sponsors, and peers, reinforcing the sense of camaraderie and pride among TAFE Queensland’s finalists.

With four of the six shortlisted students representing TAFE Queensland, the evening underscored the institution’s impact on developing future design leaders.

Congratulations to Christopher, Matt, Daniel, and Petra on your exceptional achievements. Your success is a testament to your dedication and hard work in your studies at TAFE Queensland.
