Vicente wins career-launching music competition

Eighteen-year-old Vicente Rojas, a TAFE Queensland music student, has taken out first place in the recent 105.7 Radio Metro Making Music competition.

His original track, 'Paradise' not only wowed the judges but also earned him a coveted spot on Radio Metro’s airwaves—a dream come true for any budding artist.

"I couldn't believe it when they announced my name as the winner," said Vicente.

"Having my music played on Radio Metro and winning such an incredible prize pack—it's beyond words."

Radio Metro’s Making Music competition is a prestigious event open to artists aged 16 and above across all genres. This year's competition attracted a diverse array of talent, all vying for the opportunity to have their music distributed, promoted, and mentored by industry experts.

For Vicente, who produces under the name Vice, winning this competition was a culmination of his passion for music and the solid foundation he's been building while studying the Diploma of Music (Sound Production) (CUA50820) at TAFE Queensland’s Coomera campus.

"My studies have been instrumental in preparing me for competitions like this,” said Vicente.

"The course has not only equipped me with technical skills in sound engineering and music production but also provided me with insights into industry standards and trends."

"The state-of-the-art resources and supportive learning atmosphere allowed me to hone my craft, refine my sound and taught me blend creativity with technical expertise," he said.

Beyond the curriculum, Vicente said his teachers have given him the confidence to pursue his dreams in music production through mentorship and networking.

"Connecting with industry professionals and receiving guidance from experienced mentors has enriched my experience and are invaluable as I chase my career goals," he said.

Vicente is determined to continue his journey in the industry, aiming to establish himself as both an audio engineer and an artist.

"My goal is to create music that resonates with listeners," he said.

"Whether it's through producing for others or releasing my own tracks, I want to make an impact."

For aspiring musicians considering their next steps, Vicente said if you're passionate about music, don't hesitate to pursue it seriously.

“TAFE Queensland provides an excellent platform to kickstart your career," he said.
