According to the Australian Government's Labour Market Insights report, the demand for bookkeepers and accounts clerks is expected to grow by more than 4% in the future.

In this course you'll learn how to prepare and lodge business and instalment activity statements, prepare financial reports, establish payroll systems, and provide advice to taxpayers in relation to activity statements. You'll graduate with current, practical bookkeeping and accounting skills that are attractive to prospective employers.

Successful completion of this course meets the Tax Practitioners Board academic requirements for registration as a BAS agent (additional experience requirements apply). You'll also be qualified to enter the finance industry as a bookkeeper, accounts clerk, or payroll officer.

To complete this program you must identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, as this training product has been developed specifically for you in support of equity policy for post compulsory education.

Resources required

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

Access to the internet and a computer/laptop, USB, Microsoft Office 2013 or later version, stationery items, textbooks will be supplied in electronic form within your Learning Management System, however you may purchase them if you prefer.

Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Financial Services Training Package Companion Volume Implementation Guide or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements.

Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration. Other conditions apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.

ABSTUDY
To complete this course, you are required to complete a combination of face-to-face residential block training and flexible self-paced learning. The dates for the residential blocks are per the dates on the website. This course is ABSTUDY approved. You should lodge a claim to test your eligibility for ABSTUDY and Away From Base support. If you require more information regarding Away From Base requirements, please contact one of our Indigenous Student Support Officers for assistance.
