Bricklaying and stonemasonry

TAFE Queensland offers entry-level courses in both stonemasonry and bricklaying/blocklaying. As a fully-qualified brick or blocklayer you'll also have the opportunity to continue your training to becoming a registered builder, opening up opportunities to work as a sub-contractor or sole trader.

Study bricklaying and stonemasonry

Brick layers and stonemasons work on construction projects of all sizes, ranging from small residential houses to large commercial high-rise projects. Brick and blocklayers lay bricks and other building blocks to construct walls and other structure while stonemasons cut and shape stone blocks and masonry slabs for the construction and renovation of stone structures. 

There is currently a high demand for brick and bricklaying tradespeople in Queensland due to ongoing residential and commercial growth. The number of bricklayers and stonemasons grew strongly over the past five years with employers looking for qualified candidates who are reliable and hardworking.
