Free apprenticeships for under 25s

The Queensland government is supporting young Queenslanders up to the age of 25 by providing access to fully subsidised training across a range of priority apprenticeship or traineeship qualifications.

Free apprenticeships for under 25s explained

Free apprenticeships for under 25s was introduced by the Queensland Government in January 2021. If you are an apprentice or trainee studying a priority qualification, the training fees associated with your study will be covered by the Queensland Government.

Typically, these fees are $1.60 per hour of training at TAFE Queensland.

In most cases employers will pay this fee for their apprentices or trainees. Other times the apprentice or trainee will pay it. If you’re eligible for the free apprenticeships for under 25s program, the Queensland Government will pay this on your behalf.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Free apprenticeships for under 25s, you must be employed in Queensland as an apprentice or trainee under a training contract in one of the priority apprenticeship or traineeship qualifications. You must commence, or be undertaking, your training between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2024.

Eligible qualifications

TAFE Queensland currently offers a number of qualifications that are eligible under the Queensland Government’s Free apprenticeships for under 25s program.
